Civil, Business, Estate and Personal Injury Litigation, and Criminal and Family Law
Ms. Hezlep’s experience allows her to work with the firm’s Litigation and Estate Planning Departments. She brings a wealth of knowledge that qualifies her for a wide range of legal services, including general civil litigation, trust and estate litigation, business litigation, intellectual property, professional negligence, employment and labor law, administrative law and proceedings, commercial and residential landlord/tenant disputes, construction litigation, real estate litigation, criminal law, family law, and personal injury. Her legal expertise is greatly strengthened by her work in "Corporate America" as a management consultant prior to attending law school. The combination of her legal and senior level business experience is the core of her professional strength.
Prior to joining Preovolos & Associates, Ms. Hezlep worked as a Deputy City Attorney in the Office of the City Attorney, City of San Diego. During her tenure with the City Attorney's Office, Ms. Hezlep was responsible for taking more than 50 cases to jury trial. She successfully prosecuted cases that ranged from property crimes, burglaries, sex crimes, crimes of violence, crimes against law enforcement, criminal threats, weapons charges, to vehicular crimes including vehicular man slaughter, and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Ms. Hezlep earned her Bachelor of Science, cum laude, in Computer Information Systems from Saint Leo University and her Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from Thomas Jefferson School of Law. While in school, she was a board member and national competitor for the Moot Court Society, interned for the California Attorney General's Office, and clerked for the Honorable H. Ronald Domnitz, San Diego County Superior Court Judge. While interning for Judge Domnitz, she performed in depth evaluations of both petitioners' and objectors' arguments for succession, distribution, and accounting for estates and trusts as well as appointment or removal of guardianship and conservatorship proceedings, and examined criminal procedural aspects of Proposition 36, Drug Court, and PC 1210 to aid in adjudication efficiency. Since graduation, Ms. Hezlep continues her legal education by attending seminars, workshops, and classes on a regular basis.
Ms. Hezlep is a member of the State Bar of California and is also admitted to practice before the United States District Court, Southern District. She is an active member of the San Diego County Bar Association and the Lawyers Club of San Diego, and volunteers with San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program.
Ms. Hezlep is an avid runner and supports a number of charities through running events such as Team Challenge for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation and National Foundation for Autism Research.
